KV Mechelen board remain confident in former Burnley midfielder despite one win in seven | OneFootball

KV Mechelen succumbed to yet another defeat at the weekend as they lost 2-0 to an inform Cercle Brugge. For Steven Defour, this means his side have now won just once in their last seven games. Despite the poor run of results, Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that the former Burnley midfielder still maintains the confidence of the board. The paper reports that, for now, the board are sympathetic to the situation Defour finds himself in, with injuries having denied him some key players at the weekend like captain Rob Schoofs.

However, even when he has had a full strength team, the side have been poor. They are currently languishing in 14th spot, with 11 points from 12 games. Only Kortrijk and Westerlo are below them in the table now. With the bottom for all being in with a chance of relegation this season, 12th spot is the only guarantee of safety. At the moment, Mechelen are only two points off of RWDM who occupy that spot currently.

They face Knokke in the cup during the week, before a tough game against Standard Liege, a side that Defour once played for.
