Real Madrid clashed heads with Shakhtar Donetsk at the Olimpiyskiy Stadium earlier this evening hoping to pick up maximum points on the road. The visitors were the more dominant team in the first half but couldn’t capitalise on any of the chances they created as they went into the half-time break with nothing to show for their efforts.

Los Blancos made a sloppy start to the second 45 minutes as Dentinho scored the opening goal of the contest in the 57th minute. Manor Solomon sealed the points for the Ukrainian outfit with his goal in the 82nd minute as the match finished with the Madrid giants suffering a disappointing 2-0 defeat in Kyiv.

Let’s take a look at how each Real Madrid player fared during the contest against Shakhtar Donetsk.

GK: Thibaut Courtois – 5/10

The Belgian keeper made a couple of saves during the game but couldn’t do much about either of Shakhtar’s goals this evening.

RB: Lucas Vazquez – 5/10

Vazquez was tidy with his ball-distribution but failed to create anything of note in the attacking third.

CB: Raphael Varane – 5/10

The French centre-back struggled to command his penalty box in what was overall an underwhelming display from him.

CB: Nacho – 6/10

He made some important contributions in defence but won’t be happy after conceding two sloppy second-half goals.

LB: Ferland Mendy – 7/10

The French full-back pulled off a few crucial interceptions for his side and deserves credit for showing the willingness to get forward. He was one of Zidane’s better performers of this evening.

CM: Toni Kroos – 7/10

The German midfield ace did well to help his teammates at the back when needed and created some inviting opportunities going forward as well.

CM: Luka Modric – 6/10

The experienced Croatia international showed some fight and grit to win back the ball for his side but struggled to make an impact in the final third.

LW: Marco Asensio – 6.5/10

The Spanish playmaker was a constant nuisance for the Shakhtar defenders and will be disappointed for not getting his name on the scoresheet.

CAM: Martin Odegaard – 7/10

Odegaard orchestrated some decent openings for his side in the attacking half but lacked the cutting edge in the decisive moments of the game.

RW: Rodrygo – 6/10

The Brazilian winger was not shy about taking on his marker but ended the game without attempting a shot.

ST: Karim Benzema – 6/10

The French striker had some bright moments but never looked like he had a goal in him.

Substitutes:

RW: Vinicius Junior – 6/10

The Brazilian attacker created one good chance after coming off the bench.

CAM: Isco – 5/10

The Spaniard struggled to get a foothold in the game.

ST: Mariano – 5/10

He hardly got a sniff at goal.
