Kris Boyd Announces Rangers’ Star Striker, and Ibrox Fans Say Yes | OneFootball

With Kris Boyd recently announcing that Cyriel Dessers is very much the best option for Rangers as a striker up front, and things should be adjusted to be built around the Nigerian International, Ibrox Noise polled our readers to find out if they agreed with the former striker’s summary.

The poll results were fairly emphatic. They actually did. Around 70-80% of all those who responded agreed with Boyd that Dessers is worth building around. This came as something of a surprise to Ibrox Noise, given how unpopular he appears to be at times, because the amount of hate the former Feyenoord hitman takes for his misses can be overwhelming.

Do we think he is actually good enough to be Rangers’ star striker next season? The truth is, yes and no. He does score the goals, but he misses very many indeed as well, as did Ally McCoist, so that’s not necessarily a bad mark against his name. The reality is we do like Dessers. He’s a good striker and an honest striker and he does score the goals, but he may also miss the big chances that will cost a point, that will cost three points, that could cost a lot, but then every player can make a mistake that costs points, so that is not necessarily anything new.

The fact is, Dessers is probably more popular than is realised. Those who dislike him, like those who dislike anything, are often very loud about it. If Boyd is indeed in the majority, and it seems like he is, then fan favour is definitely towards Dessers as being star striker.

Whether the manager agrees with that, time will tell. We will see.
