Korean Cup Fourth Round Draw | OneFootball

After an eventful third round featuring late winners, penalty kicks, and two top tier casualties, the Korean Cup moves onto the fourth round. Four teams, including holders Pohang Steelers, will take part for the first time, due to continental involvement. Sadly, there is a two month gap until the domestic cup returns.

The matches are scheduled to take place onWednesday, June 19th.

Match 45: Pohang Steelers (1) vs. Suwon Samsung (2)

These two clubs have an identical Korean Cup record with five wins and three final losses each. Pohang Steelers are the defending champions, but because of their exploits in AFC, this is their first Cup appearance of the season. The Bluewings last lifted the trophy in 2019 and since then have fallen on hard times; this will be their first visit to the Steelyard as a K League 2 side. Yeom Ki-hun's men have advanced to this round courtesy of narrow wins over Chuncheon Citizen and Ansan Greeners. A pity this tie will be on a Wednesday night as a big crowd would be guaranteed.

The winners of this clash will host FC Seoul or Gangwon FC. A Super Match on the cards?

Match 46: FC Seoul (1) vs. Gangwon FC (1)

The much anticipated Osmar Derby turned out to be anything but; despite being front and centre for the media briefings and various promotional posters, Seoul E-Land announced Osmar would be signing autographs in a tent rather than taking his place on the pitch. FC Seoul won 1-0 thanks to Hwang Hyun-su's second-half header. Gangwon, meanwhile, were given an almighty scare by K3 side Hwaseong FC. With the game tied 1-1 approaching the final moments, Hwaseong had a goal controversially ruled out for offside. Gangwon survived, taking the game to extra time, before going on to win 3-1.

The winners will travel to Pohang or Suwon.

Match 47: Gimpo FC (2) vs. Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors (1)

Denied the opportunity to host the third-round clash with Anyang because of stadium redevelopments, Gimpo beat their Gyeonggi rivals thanks to a 119th minute winner. They will now host Jeonbuk Hyundai, looking to repeat last season's heroics against FC Seoul. Jeonbuk are manager-less and struggling in K League 1 but given the two month gap between the rounds, their situation could look entirely different by the time they pitch up in Solteo. Having lost last season's final, Jeonbuk will be keen to overtake Pohang and Suwon as the Cup's most successful club.

The victors of this tie will face the winners from match 48 in July.

Match 48: Daejeon Hana Citizen (1) vs. Jeju United (1)

Daejeon Hana eliminated the last remaining K4 side 2-0 on Wednesday night. The live score apps were, for whatever reason, not updating the result from Jinju, giving off the appearance of a drawn game heading to extra time. In fact, Daejeon scored early and wrapped up the tie deep in added-on time. It has been a tricky start to 2024 but Daejeon have two months to get their act together before Kim Hak-beom brings Jeju over for the Cup tie. Jeju needed penalties after their home game with Cheonan City, of K League 2, ended 2-2.

The winners will make the trip to Jeonju or Gimpo in July.

Match 49: Bucheon FC 1995 (2) vs. Gwangju FC (1)

Bucheon FC survived a scare in Jeollanam-do, coming back from a goal down at the break to score twice in quick succession against K3 outfit Mokpo. The reward is a meeting with Gwangju FC, of K League 1. Had Mokpo held on to their goal lead, it would be meant an exciting South Jeolla derby but the Bucheon prevailed and will also have home advantage. This has been a much better Cup run for Bucheon; last season, they went out early, 6-0, to Seoul E-Land. Gwangju make their season bow due to AFC commitments. Last year they were hammered 4-0 in Jeonju.

K League 2 Seongnam or Cheongju await the winners.

Match 50: Seongnam FC (2) vs. Chungbuk Cheongju FC (2)

The only all second tier match up in the fourth round. Both Seongnam and Cheongju eliminated K League 1 opposition to advance; Seongnam dispatched Suwon FC thanks to an 89th-minute winner by Christy Manzinga. Meanwhile, Cheongju won on the road in Daegu. Cheongju took a lead into the break, Daegu equalized in the 75th minute but Jeong Min-woo's winner, in the 117th minute, provided us with the surprise result of the week. Interestingly, this coming weekend in K League 2, Seongnam will host Cheongju in Tancheon.

A trip to Bucheon or Gwangju awaits the victors.

Match 51: Ulsan HD (1) vs. Gyeongnam (2)

Back-to-back K League 1 champions Ulsan HD make their first appearance of the season. Surprisingly, Hong Myung-bo's side have an average record in the Cup, with their only success coming in 2017. They have lost in two finals since so the Cup might take on an extra motivation this season. They face K League 2 strugglers Gyeongnam FC in the next round. The Korean Cup has been a release for the early-season play-off contenders, recording wins over Paju and Jeonnam Dragons to advance this far. The Changwon-based club have yet to win the Korean Cup and their chances look slim in 2024.

But should Gyeongnam win in Munsu, they can look forward to a home match against the match 52 winners.

Match 52: Incheon United (1) vs. Gimcheon Sangmu (1)

Another all K League 1 fixture, this time from Sungui Arena. Gimhae, of K3, held Incheon for 61 minutes before finally falling behind. Cheon Sung-hoon scored the winner to save last season's semi-finalists from a major embarrassment. Gimcheon's round 3 game must have been a belter. Their fixture against Busan IPark was always likely to intrigue after last season's dramatic finale, and here they recovered from falling behind twice to force extra time, before eventually prevailing with a 105th-minute winner by Koo Bon-cheol.

The winner will travel to the victor from match 51.
