Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman has been shocked by the state of the club since his return.

Koeman left the Holland national team post last month to return to Barca after the dismissal of Quique Setien.

Sport says after his first weeks in charge, Koeman has confessed to those closest to him the frustration of the 'unnecessarily difficult situation' he's inherited.

The Dutchman believes the relationship between the squad and the board is in crisis - and he's been caught in the middle. While he must publicly support the decisions made, Koeman doesn't feel the same way privately.

The departures of Ivan Rakitic, Arturo Vidal, Nélson Semedo and Luis Suárez have upset the playing group - and their new coach to varying degrees.

Koeman feels he's been left 'defenseless' by the board's calls, with him left as the public face for these decisions.
