The future of Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo seems to be set after multiple clubs indicated their interest in signing him on loan this summer.

It’s been a busy transfer deadline day so far for Man United, with goalkeeper Senne Lammens set to join the club.

Meanwhile, Jadon Sancho appears to be headed for the exit deal, set to join Aston Villa on loan.

There is one more player who there have been a lot of question marks around, namely Mainoo.

Mainoo’s desire

A few days ago, Mainoo reportedly aired his desire to remain at United over the long-term. Still he allegedly wanted to seek a loan deal so that he could get more minutes on the pitch this season.

Despite this report, Tottenham Hotspur allegedly plotted to bring in Mainoo on loan, only for United to air their view on the rising star.

United’s take

As per the same report, United are unwilling to part ways with Mainoo this summer.

Aside from Spurs, Napoli also expressed an interest in signing him.

Even with manager Ruben Amorim not making much use of the English midfielder, it seems that he is still set to play an important role in United’s season.

Now, on deadline day, it seems that United’s plans for Mainoo have been finalised.

Mainoo to stay at Old Trafford

“Numerous sources now saying Kobbie Mainoo loan away from @ManUtd unlikely today,” BBC Sport’s Simon Stone posted on X.

“Doesn’t mean definitely won’t happen as loads of clubs interested, esp Serie A and more than with most windows, situations change dramatically.”

“But Ruben Amorim wants him to stay and he has a contract.”

Given that United’s only other central midfield options are Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, and Manuel Ugarte, it seems logical to keep Mainoo at the club, especially if any injuries or suspensions surface.
