Kobbie Mainoo has returned to Manchester United training ahead of their Europa League quarter-final clash with Lyon.
Ruben Amorim’s side could be boosted by the return of the English midfielder who has not played since February, in their FA Cup Fourth Round win against Leicester City.
Mainoo could travel with the rest of the United squad to France ahead of the tie, which is being held at the Groupama Stadium.
The Reds will be looking to bounce back from their uneventful 0-0 draw with Manchester City at the weekend which left them 13th in the table. Winning the Europa League looks to be their only chance of achieving Champions League football for next season.
However, it was not all good news for the Red Devils as three senior players also missed the pre-match session. Matthijs de Ligt was absent again on Wednesday having missed the Manchester derby with the ankle injury he picked up in their fixture against Nottingham Forest.
Ayden Heaven and Toby Collyer also missed the session. Collyer did not feature against City either while Heaven has not played since sustaining an injury against Leicester City, in March.
That trio are joined by Argentine centre-half Lisandro Martinez, winger Amad Diallo and another centrl defender in Johnny Evans on the sidelines. Amorim’s team, therefore, will go into the game with just three fit centre-halves. Full back Noussair Mazraoui filled in there at the weekend.
Luke Shaw was also in training again after he was an unused substitute against Manchester City. This was his first involvement in a matchday squad since the 1 December 2024 against Everton. The full back will be hoping for minutes on Thursday as he tries to get up to match fitness.
