Sofyan Amrabat has been linked with both Liverpool and Manchester United.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has called Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat in an attempt to persuade him to choose a move to Anfield over Manchester United, according to reports.

The Red Devils have been linked to the Morocco international for months with numerous reports expecting Amrabat to end up at Old Trafford this summer.

However, there has been recent speculation that Liverpool are now interested in bringing the midfielder to Anfield as they look for more players before the end of the transfer window.

Liverpool brought in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai earlier in the summer to cover for the losses of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner.

But the unexpected departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho mean that Jurgen Klopp is looking to sign at least a couple more midfielders this summer.

It was revealed yesterday that Stuttgart’s Wataru Endo will be the first one with Liverpool striking a surprise €18m (£15.4m) agreement for the Japan international.

Numerous other names have been linked as Klopp looks to bring in another player with Bayern Munich’s Ryan Gravenberch, Wolves’ Mario Lemina and Crystal Palace’s Cheick Doucoure are all believed to be on their shortlist, as well as others.

Amrabat has also been mooted over the past week with Viola News claiming that Liverpool boss Klopp has ‘called’ Amrabat in an effort to sell the Premier League club to the Moroccan.

The report explains: ‘Last Tuesday there was a telephone contact between Klopp and the midfielder: the coach explained to Amrabat the importance of a player of his characteristics in a midfield that has lost several balancers.’

Liverpool are ‘preparing the decisive thrust’ for Amrabat after Klopp’s phone call and the 26-year-old ‘appreciated the interest’ from the Merseysiders.

Man Utd have showed interest throughout the summer but the current ‘stalemate’ has left Amrabat feeling like he is ‘not the priority for [Erik] Ten Hag’.

And there is a possibility that he just ends up staying at the Serie A outfit with Viola News adding: ‘Fiorentina is waiting, aware that if the right amount doesn’t arrive, having an Amrabat in the squad to support Arthur wouldn’t be bad.’

With Casemiro disappointing in Man Utd’s 1-0 win over Wolves last weekend, former defender Gary Neville has called on Ten Hag to bring in Amrabat to play alongside the Brazilian.

“He wants everybody on that pitch to be able to play the ball his way,” Neville said on Sky Sports. “What I will say is Amrabat could come in and play alongside Casemiro, perhaps give him some help. Look, he got absolutely torn to shreds tonight Casemiro, Manchester United’s midfield were non-existent, they got ripped apart by Wolves.”
