Last summer’s transfer window saw the Saudi Pro League emerge as a viable destination for some of the world’s top talent.
And while the January window was quieter when it came to Saudi spending, this summer looks set to see the league make a further play to grow its popularity by attracting more big name players.
Here are some of those being linked with a move from the Premier League to Saudi Arabia this summer…
Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson is reportedly attracting interest from Al-Ittihad this summer. Mail Sport say they could offer an initial £25m for the Brazilian, who has been frustrated by injuries this season but is still City’s number one and recently won his sixth Premier League with the club.
The Liverpool forward was the subject of a whopping £150m bid from Al-Ittihad last summer and the Guardian say he is once again on the radar of Saudi Pro League clubs.
David Ornstein from the Athletic has, however, reported that Salah is set to stay for another year at the club. But with only one season left before his contract runs out, could the Reds be tempted to cash in and start afresh under new boss Arne Slot?
Salah’s Liverpool team-mate Alisson is also a target for Saudi Pro League clubs according to the Guardian. The goalkeeper’s contract runs until 2027, however, and it would likely take a big offer to prize him away from Anfield this summer.
Another player who would represent an enormous coup for the Saudi Pro League. The Mirror say De Bruyne is not thought to be interested in a move to the Middle East but that Al Hilal are leading the interest from Saudi clubs in the Belgian playmaker.
The Sun say De Bruyne’s team-mate is more open to a move to Saudi Arabia this summer, however. They claim sources have told them that Walker is considering his options despite being happy at Manchester City.
The Brazilian midfielder has struggled in his second season at Manchester United and could be a set to end his two-year stay in the Premier League by heading to Saudi this summer.
The Telegraph say he could link up with former Real Madrid team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr with United open to letting him go.
While being reported as “far less likely” to happen by the Telegraph, United skipper Bruno Fernandes is also attracting interest from Saudi. Fernandes has recently said that the club needs to “want him” if he is going to stay and it would certainly be a huge coup if a Saudi club could pull it off.
