Jürgen Klinsmann says Lautaro Martinez will be motivated to win the Champions League with Inter next season but insists the Nerazzurri don’t need to sign a new striker.

Former Germany international Klinsmann, an ex-Inter forward, is impressed by Lautaro Martinez. El Toro not only inspired the Nerazzurri’s Serie A win by becoming last season’s Capocannoniere but also lifted the Copa America with Argentina last weekend.

Lautaro was the best scorer in the competition with five goals and netted the winner in the Final against Colombia on Sunday.

Klinsmann: Only one thing left for Lautaro but Inter ‘don’t need’ new striker

“He has incredibly improved over the last two years. Extraordinary,” Klinsmann told Gazzetta.

“He deserves everything. It’s like he unlocked his potential after the World Cup in 2022. He is vital to Inter.”

What’s the most impressive skill set of the Argentinean?

“His ability to score in any way and from every position,” said the former striker.

“Lautaro has the right attitude. Of course, a striker like him does not like to go on the bench after winning the Scudetto, but he always gives his best. He has the attitude of a leader.”

Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni said the same thing at a press conference, admitting that Lautaro was unhappy about starting on the bench against Colombia.

Klinsmann, however, believes that Inter’s Simone Inzaghi played a key role in Lautaro’s development.

“Absolutely. When the coach and his striker are in sync, stuff like this happens,” he noted.

“Simone has done extraordinary work with Lautaro.”

Now, there is only one target left for El Toro.

“To win the Champions League. That’s the only thing remaining and he’ll want revenge.”

Inter have recently welcomed Mehdi Taremi and are interested in Albert Gudmundsson. Do they need a new striker?

“No, I think they are settled,” argued Klinsmann.

“You don’t need to add another striker when you have Taremi, Lautaro, Thuram and Arnautovic. He could even unsettle the dressing room.

“Everyone wants playing time, and adding another striker would make no sense. They are already strong and remain the favourite for the title.”
