Hull City’s proposed move for Konrad de la Fuente collapsed yesterday due to the fact that Olympiacos and Marseille failed to submit the necessary documents before the transfer deadline, according to journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu.
It is understood that the Tigers did complete their paperwork ahead of the 11pm deadline but were unable to complete a deal due to the actions of the two aforementioned clubs.
A report from Hull Live yesterday revealed that the Championship outfit were working on a deal which would see de la Fuente join on an initial loan deal.
In order to facilitate this move, Marseille needed to end de la Fuente’s loan spell at Olympiacos.
However, due to the collapse of this deal, the 21-year-old is now set to remain with the Greek side for the remainder of the season.
Given that de la Fuente has not featured for Olympiacos since their clash with Volos in September, he is likely to be forced to watch on from the sidelines for the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign.
As for Hull, they will be hoping to push on under the guidance of head coach Liam Rosenior in the coming weeks.
The Tigers will be full of confidence heading into Saturday’s clash with Cardiff City following their recent 3-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers in the Championship.
The Verdict
Hull will be disappointed by the fact that they were unable to complete this deal as de la Fuente would have provided them with another attacking outlet.
Having opted to sanction a loan move for Tyler Smith to Oxford United yesterday, the Tigers will need the likes of Oscar Estupinan, Aaron Connolly and Malcolm Ebiowei to deliver the goods in front of goal in their upcoming fixtures.
Ebiowei could be in line to make his debut this weekend while Connolly netted a brace in his fourth appearance for the club last month.
Estupinan meanwhile has managed to find the back of the net on 12 occasions in the Championship this season.
Given that Hull are only six points adrift of the play-off places, there is no reason why they should not be targeting a push for a top-six finish with Rosenior at the helm.
