Key Barcelona star expected to play less minutes this season | OneFootball

A leading member of the defensive ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona is expected to see his minutes reduced over the season ahead.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Jules Koundé as the player in question.

Stopper Koundé was of course one of the first names on the team sheet of new Barcelona boss Hansi Flick in 2024/25.

The Frenchman locked down the right-back position in the Blaugrana’s XI, shining on both sides of the ball en route to 53 appearances across all competitions.

In turn, it may come as something of a surprise to hear that Koundé, this coming season, may not be seen quite as frequently.

As per a report from Sport, after the former Sevilla man suffered an injury setback late in April:

‘Eric García has gone from being an emergency solution to real competition for Koundé. The Frenchman will need his best version to remain undisputed and the feeling is that he will not accumulate as many minutes as the season passes.’
