Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has provided a crucial update on the injury sustained against Tottenham on Tuesday night.

Pep Guardiola and his players ensured that their fate in the Premier League title race remains firmly in their own hands heading into the final day of the English top-flight season following victory over Ange Postecoglou’s team this week.

Two goals from Erling Haaland in the second-half fought off a stern test in a potentially season-ending game for the reigning Premier League champions, claiming three points that moves them to within a win over West Ham from a staggering English football record.

Manchester City could become the first team in the history of the Premier League to win the top-flight title in four consecutive seasons, and claim the title once again following their Treble triumph of last season and with an FA Cup final still to go.

But Pep Guardiola will almost certainly be wanting a full compliment of players at his disposal for their remaining two matches, and Kevin De Bruyne’s forced substitution through a major injury scare in the second-half of the win over Tottenham will have left the coach sweating.

Speaking to Sky Sports the day after Manchester City’s all-important 0-2 win over Tottenham in North London, Kevin De Bruyne offered an update on the problem that ultimately forced him off the field in the second-half.

“I think I’m alright,” De Bruyne admitted, as Manchester City returned to the City Football Academy for a recovery session following their outing in the capital the night before. “It’s a bit sore, but it’s just the place in the achilles, it’s really sore.”

De Bruyne continued, “And at that moment, it felt a little bit like a knife at that moment that I got the impact. But it’s (only) an impact, so it’s not bad. It’ll be alright.”

De Bruyne has been in staggering form for Manchester City since the turn of the year, having missed the entirety of the first-half of the season following hamstring surgery undertaken shortly after the opening Premier League match of the campaign.

Across his 24 appearances in all competitions this season, De Bruyne has managed to score six goals and provide 18 assists, making him one of the club’s leading goal contributors for the whole of the season despite having just played the last five months.
