The info comes courtesy of The Athletic, who point towards Kepa as having become altogether disillusioned with his situation at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The Spaniard, for his part, linked up with Carlo Ancelotti’s Real last summer, as part of a season-long loan deal from Premier League heavyweights Chelsea.

This came after Thibaut Courtois suffered a long-term knee injury whilst in pre-season training.

After originally being assured of his status as the new no.1 in Madrid, however, recent months have seen Kepa slip firmly behind Andriy Lunin in the pecking order between the posts.

And, despite as much having been fully justified based on the respective performances put forth by the pair across the season, Kepa has nevertheless been left ‘extremely disappointed’.

The 29-year-old is particularly frustrated with boss Ancelotti, who is yet to confirm to either he or Lunin which of the pair is considered first-choice, and why.

As per The Athletic’s report:

‘Sources close to Arrizabalaga say he is not happy with his circumstances and that they would have appreciated more clarity on the issue from the manager.’
