Fluminense have confirmed the re-signing of Thiago Silva.

The 39-year-old defender is expected to sign a two-year contract with the Brazilian club, where he came through the academy ranks with in the late 1990s before making 143 appearances between 2006 and 2009.

Silva’s return to his homeland comes after a trophy-laden 15-year spell in Europe with AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and, most recently, Chelsea.

The former Brazil captain will make his final bow for the Blues against Bournemouth on May 19th in what promises to be an emotional afternoon at Stamford Bridge.

Silva will be hoping to end Fluminense’s 12-year wait for a league title when he makes his comeback.
