Kenny warns Sheffield United to steer clear of Terry after update reported | OneFootball

John Terry does not have enough experience and Sheffield United should avoid appointing him just because he is a “big name.”

That is according to ex-Blades goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Mirror reported that the 40-year-old is a contender for the vacant role at Bramall Lane.

Terry is currently working alongside Dean Smith in the Aston Villa dugout and is yet to take his first managerial position.

Terry has not been shy about declaring his ambition to move into management and Villa and Smith are said to accept that he will at some point move on.

Kenny hailed Terry’s playing career but insisted that he would not be the right fit for United as they need a disciplinarian like Chris Wilder at the helm.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “The problem with John Terry is experience. I don’t think it’s right going for a name.

“Don’t get me wrong, he’s had an unbelievable playing career, but I just think they’d be going for a big name with him, to be honest.

“Actually, for me, they need another Chris Wilder. A Chris Wilder is someone who can put a rocket up them. Someone who’s been there, done that and bought the t-shirt.

“I know Terry has as a player, but you see it so often that players who have had brilliant playing careers have struggled as a manager.”

United parted company with Wilder in March with the club anchored to the bottom of the Premier League.

Paul Heckingbottom was appointed interim manager and is the favourite to take the job on a permanent basis.
