Kennedy: Etihad outings are matches to remember | OneFootball

Alanna Kennedy says City’s outings at the Etihad Stadium are always occasions to savour.

Gareth Taylor’s side return to the arena on Friday 8 November when hosting Spurs at 19:30 (UK) in what will be our first of three matches there this season.

Our previous appearance at the Etihad saw the Blues record a magnificent 3-1 win over Manchester United in March with Jess Park bagging a brace and Khadija ‘Bunny Shaw’ surpassing our record goalscoring tally.

Kennedy played the entirety of that sparkling success and provided the assist for the England international’s second of the afternoon.

And the Australia international says she’s aiming to create more memories at the Etihad when we lock horns with Spurs in the Barclays Women’s Super League on Friday night.

“It’s exciting, it’s always good to be playing in front of big crowds and in great stadiums,” she declared.

“The occasion is a bigger one than some and hopefully again it’s another good performance from us.

“We can continue to play good football, but also get more games in those stadiums and have people with eyes on our games.

“Our game against Manchester United last season was an exciting one there in front of a great City crowd. A good performance that day as well.

“Those are games you remember and hopefully we can have more memories in that stadium.”

City’s clash with Spurs this Friday will be the first of a trio of outings at the Etihad this season ahead of meetings with Manchester United and Chelsea there later in the season.

Already this term, Taylor’s team have played Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium and Liverpool at Anfield.

And Kennedy has paid tribute to the trailblazing women’s players whose tireless work and dedication helped the growth of the sport - but she says there’s still more to come.

She added: “Each year it’s growing and you can see the investment that’s been put in the game. Take nothing away from the players who have worked really hard to get ourselves into that position.

“It’s good to see people getting around women’s football and the quality is getting better and better as well.

“It’s hard, sometimes you look at it whether it’s to be grateful to be playing in front of these stadiums, but we want that to be normalised that we play there week in week out.

“There’s a lot of growth that’s been had, but still more to come.”
