Harry Kane has said the expectation at Bayern Munich is to win the Champions League after his side beat Arsenal to reach the semi-finals.

Joshua Kimmich scored the only goal of the game in Munich as the German giants progressed to the last four with a 1-0 win at the Allianz Arena.

After an entertaining first-leg in north London that finished 2-2, the return was a cagey affair with limited clear-cut chances.

Kimmich scored the decisive goal on 63 minutes as the 29-year-old arrived at the back post to thunder in a header from Raphaël Guerreiro’s cross, as Bayern eliminated Arsenal from the Champions League’s knockout rounds for a fifth time.

For Kane, victory keeps alive hopes of ending his wait for major silverware in his debut campaign in Bavaria, after Bayern relinquished the Bundesliga title to Bayer Leverkusen at the weekend.

The England captain hailed an ‘unbelievable win’ from his team and said Thomas Tuchel’s side have their sights set on winning the competition.

“Yeah an unbelievable win. It’s been a tough season for us,” Kane said to TNT Sports at full-time.

“We’ve had to fight and grind it out at times. We knew we could make the difference with our fans at home. It was a tough game, a tight game. It was a great goal from Josh [Kimmich]. To reach the semi-finals is a great achievement for us and we can enjoy it.

“I think in these types of games the first half is always a bit cagey. We said at half-time we wanted to up the tempo, be aggressive. We had a couple off the post and could have made it easier for ourselves but these games are always tough and you just have to get through them.

“The expectation here is to try and win the Champions League. We won the league for 11 years in a row so maybe there was a bit of tempo missing. That can’t happen. Now we have to enjoy the Champions League and try to get ready for Saturday.”
