Newly promoted Ipswich Town have pulled off a transfer coup with the signing of Kalvin Phillips on loan from Manchester City.

Phillips will spend the entirety of the 2024/25 season on loan at Portman Road, and becomes the Tractor Boys’ seventh summer signing. There is reportedly no option to buy in the loan deal.

The 28-year-old England international midfielder spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham having failed to nail down a regular starting spot following his move to City from boyhood club Leeds in the summer of 2022.

Phillips has made just 31 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side since that £42m transfer, and he only played 10 times during his underwhelming spell at West Ham.

“This is a day I’ve been waiting a number of weeks for now and I’m very happy to be here.”, Phillips explained after signing for Ipswich, where he will take the no.8 shirt.

He is under contract at the Etihad Stadium until June 2028, and will be hoping to get his career back on track this season by helping Ipswich to stave off relegation.
