Kaizer Chiefs assistant coach Cedric Kaze has addressed question marks over the selection dilemma between two recently signed strikers Etiosa Ighodaro and Flavio Silva.

The Nigerian forward, who touched down in South Africa in the 2021/22 season ahead of signing for Mamelodi Sundowns, scored six goals in 27 appearances across all competitions during his loan spell at AmaZulu last season.

Meanwhile, the former Portugal youth international was roped in on the back of scoring nine goals and provided two assists in 33 matches across all competitions for Persebaya Surubaya in the Indonesian topflight division during the 2024/25 campaign.

Chiefs’ reinforcement of the striking department is a clear statement of intent, having parted ways with Ranga Chivaviro. However, there have been questions as to who will lead the line between the newly signed frontmen – concerns Kaze put to bed.

“It’s always good to have more options in your squad, it creates more competition, and it gives you the luxury of having another kind of a profile of players like Silva and Ighodaro,” said the Burundian tactician.

“But someone like Silva is another profile that you get in these kinds of games and it’s always good to have options and we are looking at every option that we have, depending as well on the opponent we are going to face.

“And we are pretty sure that everyone is going to be [important], they will have [their chances to play], either for the next game or for the remainder of the season.

In addition to Ighodaro and Silva, the Soweto giants also have Ashley du Preez, Wandile Duba, Tashreeq Morris, new signing Luke Baartman and recently promoted academy graduate Naledi Hlongwane, who are all capable of leading the line.

With their unbeaten record in the 2025/26 Betway Premiership campaign still intact after four league outings, Nasreddine Nabi’s men will return to action with a clash against Golden Arrows at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday (17h30).
