West Ham United’s unwavering stance on Jean-Clair Todibo has reportedly put Juventus off. According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the Turin heavyweights are moving on from the French defender after being rebuffed by the Hammers.
Juventus allegedly rekindled their interest in the former Barcelona center-back on Thursday. However, they hoped to sign Todibo on loan with an option to buy. West Ham are reluctant to agree to such terms. In fact, they wouldn’t sanction any loan deal.
West Ham signed the 25-year-old from OGC Nice for a reported fee of €40 million last summer. Despite Todibo’s underwhelming start to life in the Premier League, they’re unwilling to let him go for peanuts. Indeed, he has only made 15 appearances this season, including eight starts.
Therefore, Juventus may have believed they could lure the Frenchman to the Allianz Stadium on favorable terms. The Bianconeri tried to capture Todibo’s signature in the summer transfer window. But the defender grew tired of Juve’s protracted negotiations with Nice.
After waiting for Juventus to finalize an agreement with the Ligue 1 outfit for over a month, he switched to London. The move hasn’t panned out as expected, yet he probably won’t join the record-time Italian champions this winter.
With Todibo unreachable, Juventus have two more viable targets in their crosshairs. Feyenoord’s David Hancko and Newcastle United’s Lloyd Kelly are on Cristiano Giuntoli’s shortlist as he bids to give Thiago Motta another reliable defensive option after losing Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal to long-term injuries.
