“Do or die” | Regardless of this season, Potter must deliver

West Ham‘s summer of significant overhaul looms with pressure building on the task that cannot fail.

Sunday’s final home game of this dreadful 2024/25 season saw Graham Potter record yet another defeat in his tenure so far as Hammers boss, which underlines an unwelcome record which does nothing to steady the nerves in east London.

Back in January when Potter arrived to replaced the utterly woeful Julen Lopetegui, there was a sense of hope and belief, that West Ham were set to turn a corner and finish this season strong to breathe hope into the club.

However, in the 19 matches that Potter has been in charge, West Ham have lost half of them, whilst only winning on 4 occasions. Its a record that has many questioning whether things really are set to improve under the former Brighton boss.

It must be said that despite the results, West Ham have not taken a hammering since his arrival – which is a positive considering it was a regular occurrence before Potter rocked up to the London Stadium.

But the confidence levels have dipped in recent weeks, with many concerned by how vital the summer transfer window really is for this football club, with it fair to say that relegation could well have been a reality this season, had it not been for the quality of Southampton, Leicester City and Ipswich Town.

Never has the club been so reliant on a successful transfer window, with the hope being Potter can deliver a side that boasts youth, freshness, pace and power. But the current situation, position and results this season do little to instill confidence that he can deliver on what feels like a do-or-die moment for West Ham.
