Ajax have officially acquired Juventus defender Daniele Rugani on loan for the 2024/25 season.

The 30-year-old centre-back previously signed a contract extension with the Serie A side until 2026 but was deemed to not be a part of manager Thiago Motta’s plans.

After missing all of Juventus’ pre-season, Rugani makes the switch to the Amsterdam giants who he will try and help return to the top of the Eredivisie table.

According to reports in Italy, Bologna and Genoa were also interested in signing the Italian defender. Disucssions with Ajax manager Francesco Farioli ultimately led him to the Netherlands.

The move is Rugani’s fourth loan away from Juventus. While in Turin, he registered 11 goals and one assist in 148 appearances across all competitions.
