Burnley’s lead at the top of the Sky Bet Championship table was extended to 18 points last night as the Clarets drew 1-1 with Slaven Bilic’s Watford at Turf Moor.

It was the away side that led for the majority of the match with Joao Pedro putting the Hornets 1-0 up in the 32nd minute.

However, in the 95th minute, Michael Obafemi was there to tap in an extremely late equaliser to send the Burnley faithful into raptures and to extend the club’s unbeaten record at home this season in the Championship.

Vincent Kompany’s men were hoping to break a second-tier record by recording an 11th straight win however they failed to do so as the battling Hornets sealed a point, though, they managed to break club record by scoring in 28 successive league games.

It was Obafemi’s first goal for the Clarets last night after his switch from Swansea City in the January transfer window and teammate Nathan Tella was delighted to see the Republic of Ireland international bag a goal for his new club.

Both Tella and Obafemi were together at Southampton and have of course since been reunited at Turf Moor, and reacting after the game last night, Tella was quite clearly feeling reminiscent after Obafemi’s big moment.

“Just like the old days” was how Tella reacted, and Burnley fans will certainly be hoping the pair can continue their fine form as the Clarets edge closer to an immediate return to the Premier League.

Speaking after the match, Burnley boss  Vincent Kompany said to BBC Lancashire:

“In the end it was a good point, a good result. I’m also pleased with the performance – details can be better, in which case we probably would have had all three points, but we played against a very good side.

“If you told me before the season that this would be the type of game we would play against a side like Watford, I’d sign up for that all day.

“It’s the way we conceded that can leave regrets, but I’ve been in the game too long to know that these moments happen in a season – you have to factor them in almost.

“Sometimes you get away with it, this time we didn’t, but luckily for us I thought there was enough in the team’s performance to get a well-deserved point and we could have had more, of course.”
