Burnley coach Mike Jackson will turn down the chance to join Vincent Kompany at Bayern Munich.

That is according to a report from journalist Alan Nixon, who says that the 50-year-old is instead set to remain at Turf Moor.

Despite his Burnley side being relegated from the Premier League back to the Championship after just one campaign this season, Kompany looks set to be handed a big opportunity this summer.

It has been reported that Bayern have agreed a deal with Burnley that will see Kompany leave the Lancashire club, in order to take charge of the German giants after they parted company with Thomas Tuchel.

Indeed, Kompany himself has already agreed terms on a move to the Bundesliga, although it seems Jackson will not be following him to mainland Europe.

Mike Jackson set for Burnley stay instead of Bayern Munich move.

It has been suggested that Kompany will look to take his backroom staff with him to Bayern, once he takes over the club.

That was set to include Jackson, who has been a significant part of Kompany's team behind the scenes. The former Preston North End, Bury and Blackpool defender first joined Burnley as their under-23's manager in the summer of 2021.

His appointment came after brief spells as manager of two more clubs he had previously played for, Shrewsbury Town and Tranmere Rovers.

Jackson then ended the 2021/22 campaign in interim charge of Burnley's first-team following the sacking of Sean Dyche.

He won three and drew two of his eight games in charge, but was unable to prevent the Clarets suffering relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2021/22 season.

He then worked under Kompany to help the club bounce back at the first attempt in 2022/23, but could not prevent another immediate relegation from the top-flight in this latest campaign.

Despite that, this latest update has claimed that Jackson has decided to remain with Burnley, rather than go to Bayern with Kompany.

It has already been reported that another of the Belgian's coaching staff at Turf Moor, Craig Bellamy, is also set to turn down the chance to make the move to the Bundesliga club too.

It is hard not to feel as though this represents something of a setback for Kompany as he prepares to make his move to Bayern.

Taking charge of the German giants following the departure of Thomas Tuchel, will be a big ask for the Belgian.

Not only will there be an expectation on him to succeed, he will also be having to pick the club up after one of their most disappointing seasons in years, after a rare trophyless campaign.

It may therefore have helped Kompany to have people he knows such as Jackson and Bellamy to help him work out just what approach he needs to take with this role.

However, it appears as though that will not be happening, putting more pressure on Kompany to potentially work with a backroom team he is less familiar with.
