Just in: Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid La Liga match will not take place in the USA | OneFootball

After reports emerged earlier today that La Liga was encountering some hurdles in their efforts to move the game between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid to the USA, it appears that the idea has completely halted.

Indeed, as reported by Mundo Deportivo, the match between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, scheduled for December 22nd, which La Liga and both clubs wanted to play in Miami will finally not be held in the American city.

La Liga forwarded their request to shift the game to the US to the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) in October last week itself.

The highest body of Spanish football then transferred the matter to the Consejo Superior de Deportes or the National Sports Council CSD so that the match could be played in Miami.

However, as per the report, RFEF has now backtracked and has requested the CSD to cancel the consultation with the Administrative Sports Court (TAD).

It is because they claim that La Liga had decided to abort the attempt, something that the league as well as Relevent, the organiser of the match, have denied minutes later.

The RFEF had raised the consultation to the CSD because it wanted to know if the current management commission that governs the day-to-day affairs of the body has the power to green-light a La Liga game to be played outside of Spain for the first time in history.

The management commission chaired by María Ángeles García Chaves, who took over former RFEF president Pedro Rocha was disqualified for two years, will only give the green light to the match if the TAD report is favourable as they want to avoid possible complaints.

However, given the possibility that the request could be challenged, the RFEF has finally backtracked, putting an end to any hopes of moving the game to Miami in December.
