It has been widely reported that Barcelona is looking to clear out the squad this summer. With new arrivals coming in and their registrations now being a priority, players without much purpose are expected to leave. This also includes the goalkeeping position at Barcelona.

With Joan Garcia’s arrival, Wojciech Szczesny’s contract renewal, and Marc-Andre Ter Stegen’s recent surgery, Inaki Pena is essentially the odd man out. While Barcelona wants to keep him until they can register the new summer arrival and the Polish goalkeeper, his exit seems likely, irrespective of the time it takes.

Moreover, with the player reportedly negotiating a contract termination, he could become a very attractive option for certain clubs. According to SPORT, however, he has already attracted the interest of La Liga side Celta Vigo.

Reportedly, the Vigo-based club is considering the need to sign a new goalkeeper following the disappointing performances of their current options. Moreover, the report claims that they want a player who is technically gifted as well, and Inaki Pena fits that profile like a glove.

With opportunities not guaranteed next season at Barcelona, and with a possible contract termination on the way as well, Celta Vigo has the Spanish goalkeeper back on their radar.

Either way, however, the report does state that no transfer fee would be involved in a potential move, and the player would need to agree to a significant pay cut as well.
