Ivan Juric remains convinced Roma ‘put in a wonderful performance’ in their 1-1 draw with Monza and can ‘look to the future with great confidence.’

The Giallorossi have been struggling badly in the Europa League, drawing with Athletic Club and losing 1-0 in Sweden to Elfsborg on Thursday.

They had at least done better in Serie A, winning both Juric’s previous games in charge, but that streak also came to an end in today’s 1-1 draw away to Monza.

Artem Dovbyk had opened the scoring with a well-taken solo effort, only for Dany Mota Carvalho to tap in an Andrea Carboni cross undisturbed at the back post.

Director Florent Ghisolfi went to DAZN and Sky Sport Italia after the final whistle, demanding “respect” for the club after Tommaso Baldanzi’s rejected penalty appeal.

Juric proud of Roma performances, despite poor results

“We put in a wonderful performance, both when defending and attacking, creating so many scoring opportunities,” Juric told DAZN.

“The only issue was the fact we should’ve scored more goals, that is a pity. The team had an excellent approach and I can see fantastic margin for improvement. I am very satisfied with the performance, disappointed by the result and the penalty that wasn’t given.”

With Paulo Dybala, Mats Hummels, Alexis Saelemaekers and Enzo Le Fée out of action, Roma also lost Stephan El Shaarawy to injury in the first half.

Matias Soulé started and is still struggling to find his place in this Roma side.

“I think he had a good game, he can do better like all the young players, but it was positive today. I am sorry for El Shaarawy, who got hurt, but Nicola Zalewski came on with the right energy.”

Juric already insisted after the defeat to Elfsborg that Roma had played well and he continues to have a different view of their performances compared to pundits and many fans.

“As far as I can see, the team has really raised the bar. We picked up seven points in the last three games, when we really deserved nine points.

“The difficulties from around the club are not easy to deal with, but we must transform those jeers into applause, because these lads are working hard.

“The only difficulty we had today with Monza was the long ball for Milan Djuric. We were superior, we improved as the game wore on, but clearly we need more time. We look to the future with great confidence.”
