Jurgen Klopp was left bemused by Diego Simeone, who ran off without shaking hands with the Liverpool manager after his Atletico Madrid side suffered a 3-2 defeat on Tuesday night.
The two sides played out a classic Champions League encounter at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Goals from Mohamed Salah and Naby Keita put the visitors 2-0 up after 13 minutes before Antoine Griezmann netted a brace to put Atletico back on level terms before half-time.
Griezmann was then shown a straight red card early in the second half for catching Roberto Firmino with a high boot.
The in-form Salah sealed all three points for Liverpool with a 78th-minute spot-kick, although Simeone and everyone else associated with Atletico were left incensed when they had a penalty overturned following a VAR review shortly afterwards.
Simeone felt the penalty should have stood when Jose Gimenez went down inside the Liverpool box, but the decision was overturned when referee Daniel Siebert reviewed the incident on the pitch-side monitor.
Angered by that, plus the early decision to send off Griezmann, Simeone raced down the tunnel as soon as the full-time whistle was blown.
The Argentine coach didn’t shake hands with Klopp, who understandably wasn’t happy with the snub.
Still, this was a huge victory for Klopp’s side, who will be looking to keep up their excellent run of form when they take on rivals Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.
The Reds do battle with Atletico once again on November 3 at Anfield and it promises to be another spicy night between two of Europe’s best teams.
