Barcelona have emerged as one of the busiest clubs in the transfer market this summer, bringing in a slew of world-class talents from all over Europe.

Robert Lewandowski was certainly the marquee signing for the Catalans, followed by other big-money purchases including Jules Kounde and Raphinha.

The club were able to sign Andreas Christensen and Franck Kessie on free transfers as well, further strengthening the overall quality of the team heading into the 2022/23 campaign.

However, after spending more than €150 million at a time of economic crisis, the Barcelona management has come under fire for the market policies and overall executive decisions taken by the board throughout the summer.

Others have been baffled by the club’s transfer activity, especially in the midst of one of the worst financial crises the club have ever faced.

Jurgen Klopp was the most recent figure to comment on Barcelona’s spending this summer. The Liverpool manager says he has been completely bamboozled by the club’s spending powers even though the club were experiencing multiple financial issues.

At the same time, the German tactician took a sly dig at Barcelona, suggesting he would not have been so reckless in the market if the board had informed him of the club’s economic crisis.

“Barça’s spending? I don’t understand it. If you tell me I don’t have money, I don’t spend anything anymore. This happened to me twice in the past with my credit card,” said Klopp (h/t Welt), whose Liverpool side were relatively quiet in the market, with Darwin Nunez being the only major investment.

The Reds were able to bring in Calvin Ramsay and Fabio Carvalho as well, but both the players are set to serve as backups, more than anything else.
