Julian Nagelsmann set for Bayern Munich return following Xabi Alonso disappointment | OneFootball

Bayern Munich are finalising plans to bring back former manager Julian Nagelsmann, according to Sky Germany.

Talks are in the advanced stage about a three or four-year contract, but the German manager has not yet given his final green light. However, the Bayern hierarchy believes a deal is close to the finish line.

Die Rekordmeister have been looking for a new boss since they decided to part ways with Thomas Tuchel following an underwhelming tenure.

Tuchel joined the club in the middle of last season, surprisingly replacing Nagelsmann, but Bayern have since suffered a dip in form and performance.

They crashed out of the DFB-Pokal and Champions League last season and only managed to win the Bundesliga title thanks to a colossal meltdown from Borussia Dortmund on the final day of the season.

This campaign hasn’t been better for Tuchel and his boys as they lost their grip on the Meisterschale for the first time in 11 years. They were knocked out of the DFB-Pokal by third-division side FC Saarbrucken.

Bayern were plotting to bring in newly-crowned Bundesliga-winning manager Xabi Alonso, but he decided to stay at Bayer Leverkusen for one more season.

Since Alonso’s rejection, the discussions with Nagelsmann have intensified. Bayern directors Max Eberl and Christoph Freund led the negotiations with his agency, Sports360.

Apart from Nagelsmann, there are two other options on the shortlist – Brighton & Hove Albion’s Roberto De Zerbi & Aston Villa’s Unai Emery.

However, the report claims Nagelsmann will likely become the new coach of Bayern following his stint as Germany’s national team manager.
