Juan Jesus has tried to smooth things over with Napoli fans after a troubled few days since his car was broken into. ‘Some things hurt me, but my anger was never towards the people of Naples.’
The defender had let loose in an angry tirade on Instagram Stories when he discovered his car windows had been smashed and ransacked, noting he would “not feel safe ever again in such a beautiful city.”
Juan Jesus explained this was only the latest frightening incident, after finding five geo-trackers inside his vehicle and being tailed for almost a month.
Fans and local politicians reacted with a combination of compassion and irritation, feeling that the Napoli star was propagating the all too common stereotypes of Naples being a dangerous place to live.
So today the Brazilian tried to smooth things over with a new Instagram post, with the classic Neapolitan song by Pino Daniele playing over it.
“Every morning I wake up in front of a breath-taking view, a constant reminder of the beauty of this city.
“There are things that hurt me, but my anger was not towards the Neapolitans or my team. My outburst was that of a man who has the 3rd Napoli Scudetto tattooed on his skin, who is raising his children here and still believes in this project, supported by the marvellous people of Naples who always welcomed me.”
To make matters worse, later in the week his Napoli teammate Matteo Politano also had his vehicle broken into.
