Jozo Šimunović’s goal for Celtic on Saturday seemed written in the stars.

Following the passing of legendary captain Billy McNeill, the Croatian headed the Hoops to a 1-0 win over Kilmarnock on Saturday.

That he did so wearing McNeill’s famous number five in the 67th minute (the year ‘Cesar’ led them to European Cup glory) was spine-tingling.

The emotion and enormity of the goal wasn’t lost on the scorer either.

“It is an amazing feeling. Personally, this is definitely my greatest moment at Celtic,” a sentimental Šimunović said afterwards.

“This wasn’t about me. It was about Billy and his family because he is such a big part of Celtic’s history.

“I could see it meant a lot to his family too. Some might say it is lucky but somebody [above] sees everything.

“I am so proud to be part of it. Of course, I dedicate the goal to him.”

The centre-back donated his match-worn jersey to the McNeill family after the game.
