Highlights

  • Graeme Bailey believes Nottingham Forest probably have Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson on their radar.
  • Premier League clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester City have also shown interest in Patterson.
  • His contract doesn't expire until 2028, which is likely to make him extremely expensive.

Journalist Graeme Bailey believes Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson is likely to be high up on Premier League side Nottingham Forest's radar, speaking to Nottingham Forest News.

With the Reds in the top flight, they could have a decent amount to spend in the summer, although they will be wary of potential Financial Fair Play breaches with the club already facing a potential points penalty.

Shopping in the Championship rather than in the top tiers of European football may prove to be cheaper for the East Midlands club - and they have been linked with some English second-tier players recently including Ipswich Town full-back Leif Davis.

Patterson's Pierre Ekwah , but a move for the Frenchman didn't materialise during the January transfer window.

Interest in Anthony Patterson

In terms of Patterson, top-flight interest in his signature isn't new, with the player previously attracting interest from Leicester City and Wolves.

The Foxes were in the top tier at the time, but their chances of signing him looked slim when they were relegated at the end of last term.

In terms of current interest, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City have all recently been linked.

Bailey also believes the shot-stopper could be on Forest's radar.

He told Nottingham Forest News: "We know Liverpool are looking around as well at potential new signings.

"Anthony Patterson at Sunderland is one who I imagine would be very high on the Forest radar as well and a lot of clubs in the Premier League are looking at him.

"Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal are looking at him, he’s homegrown and he’s a very good keeper so keep an eye on him as well."

A Nottingham Forest move for Anthony Patterson may be a risk

Matt Turner hasn't been great at times this term and they need a capable and reliable stopper.

Patterson is a young keeper who will only get better, but he doesn't have any top-flight experience under his belt at this point.

With this in mind, it may take him some time to adapt to life at the City Ground. But if Forest remain in the top tier, they will need someone who can hit the ground shining and shine straight away.

Patterson may not be able to do that, but he has put in some excellent performances in recent seasons.

Adapting from League One to the Championship very well, there is no reason why he can't make the step up to the top tier at some point.

With this in mind, the Black Cats will probably demand a huge amount for their first-choice shot-stopper and Forest may not be able to fork out that amount of money.

With other clubs keen on Patterson too, the Reds should have plenty of options on their shortlist to pursue in the summer.
