Bayern Munich starlet Joshua Zirkzee has responded angrily to suggestions that his attitude on the training ground isn’t what it should be.
The 18-year-old has been a revelation at the Allianz Arena since breaking through earlier this season.
He took advantage of injuries elsewhere in attack to step up and score three times and contribute an assist so far in his six appearances.
But Bild still issued a surprise report last month in which it was claimed that he has been ‘hapless and unmotivated’ on the training ground, with Zirkzee now taking the opportunity to respond.
“I thought that was a bit too much and that it was unnecessary to be honest,” Zirkzee told De Telegraaf in his native Netherlands.
“Everyone has training sessions in which they score less goals. Do I have to keep walking around with a happy face?
“On one hand, it does motivate me even more but on the other, I think that I should just let it go.
“As long as my coaches and team-mates believe in me, that’s the most important thing.”
Zirkzee is in line to make his return to action this weekend as the Bundesliga returns when Bayern take on Union Berlin.
