Jose Mourinho bizarrely sympathises with Juventus following their 10-point deduction | OneFootball

AS Roma manager Jose Mourinho was surprisingly angry at the decision by a higher court to dock ten points from Serie A rivals Juventus.

The Italian Football Federation’s (FIGC) Federal Court of Appeal decided on the punishment yesterday for their capital gain irregularities.

Juventus are accused of including artificial gains on their club transfers, thereby fixing their balance sheets.

The first time the case came up in January, the FIGC slammed the Turin club with a 15-point penalty. The entire Juventus board of directors resigned as they received bans for cheating.

Juventus appealed the decision and got their 15 points back, but the FIGC went to court again and secured this new punishment.

The decision saw AS Roma inch closer to Europa League football next season as they climbed to sixth place. They are only a point away from Atalanta in fifth.

They are only four points away from fourth place AC Milan in the final Champions League position.

Despite the decision giving Mourinho’s side an advantage, the 60-year-old was unhappy.

Mourinho told DAZN (via Goal): “It’s a joke to know this with two games remaining. For us and everyone, even for Juventus.

“Our approach would have been different if we had known before the games with Monza and Bologna.

“I am sorry for [Massimiliano] Allegri and his players, but at the league level, I have to say that it changes things a little.

“To me, yes, [the season was warped] but I no longer want to talk about this.

“I am sorry for professionals who work like me because they pay for errors that directors and maybe the club did.”

Juventus maintain they will continue to contend the decision, which could have dire consequences for their future.

They rely on their Champions League income, and this decision effectively kills their chances of qualifying for the competition.

They have crashed out of the Europa League, which was their alternate means to get into the Champions League.

Juventus will hope to regain their focus and try to finish as high as possible in Serie A. That did not start well after they lost 4-1 to Empoli yesterday, just hours after the punishment.
