Sky Germany reports that Augsburg are interested in acquiring a right-back this summer and Hertha Berlin’s Jonjoe Kenny and Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Stefan Lainer are both options.
Kenny fits the profile of the type of right-back that Augsburg would like but a move away from Hertha would only likely be a loan. The 26-year-old’s current contract at Hertha expires in 2025, so it is possible that the club would still like him to be a part of their plans if they return to the Bundesliga.
While for Lainer, a move is likely to be permanent as Gladbach are open to selling the 30-year-old this summer. Lainer’s current contract at Gladbach expires next summer so the transfer fee is likely to not be high.
According to transfermarkt, the right-back is valued at €3m. Lainer had fallen out of favour under former coach Daniel Farke and it is currently unknown if new coach Gerardo Seaone will use Lainer over Joe Scally who played the majority of the games last season.
Augsburg currently only has one recognised right-back in Robert Gumny and at times last season, the Polish international would either play at centre-back or at the back end of the season he fell out of favour.
