Canada striker Jonathan David has revealed he could be staying with Lille despite big-name interest from the Premier League.
After tying the menâs national teamâs all-time scoring record against the United States on Saturday, the Lille forward opened up on his future in a one-on-one interview with The Athletic.
The 24-year-old was previously linked with Chelsea, Arsenal, and Manchester United. The Blues notably held talks with Davidâs camp over a potential transfer.
âIt just didnât happen,â David said regarding agreeing a deal elsewhere. âThere were a couple of offers and we just didnât finish the deal, thatâs it. I spoke to a couple of teams. I spoke with coaches. But ultimately made the decision to stay.â
The Canadian went on to explain the Premier League is on his radar but hinted a stay at Lille is in the mix with contract negotiations ongoing.
âWhat am I waiting for? I guess now itâs easier to say. Iâm in the last year of my contract. Eventually my contract is going to run out,â David said.
âRight now weâre speaking with the (Lille President Oliver Letang) about a possible extension ⌠Weâll see how that goes.â
âIâm open to anything,â David added. âI think obviously the Premier League is regarded as one of the best league in the world. And for me itâs not the Premier League or bust. Iâm open to anything and every league has its challenges.â
Canada will face Mexico on 10 September, where David will look to score his record-breaking 30th goal.
