Olympique Marseille have officially commenced negotiations with Lille OSC regarding a transfer for winger Edon Zhegrova, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Zhegrova has been a solid performer for Lille since joining in 2022 from Basel, bagging 26 goals and 17 assists in 107 games across all competitions.
However, the Kosovo international is entering the final year of his contract with no extension in sight. This has prompted Lille to put him up for sale to avoid losing him on a free transfer next year.
Marseille’s interest in Zhegrova comes after the club recently completed the record acquisition of Igor Paixao and agreed a deal to sign Timothy Weah.
Zhegrova had an impressive start to the 2024/25 season, scoring eight goals and providing two assists in 21 matches before picking up an injury in December that sidelined him.
This has somewhat tempered interest from other clubs, potentially handing Marseille a free run.
Known for his dribbling and creativity, Zhegrova would be a solid signing for Marseille ahead of their return to the Champions League.
However, the 26-year-old’s volatile temperament remains a cause for concern, especially given the combustible nature of his potential new manager, Roberto De Zerbi.
Lille are reportedly demanding €20-25 million for Zhegrova’s sale, which would provide them with some financial muscle to bring more players in.
They have already completed six signings this summer but are still in the market for further reinforcements.
