John Obi Mikel has praised Enzo Maresca and believes he’s changed the attitude of the team following a successful start to the season.

Maresca was surprisingly appointed as the successor to Mauricio Pochettino earlier this summer after guiding Leicester to the Championship title last season.

Chelsea have certainly taken a gamble on the 44-year-old who has very little coaching experience at a senior level, but they have entrusted him as the man to change the club’s fortunes around.

Mikel praises Maresca

Maresca has certainly made a positive impact and early signs look good as the Blues have made an impressive start to the campaign.

Chelsea currently sit fourth with 13 points from their opening six games and their only defeat was on the opening day against Manchester City.

The club are currently the top scorers in the division and there already appears to be a clear identity and style of play forming under the Italian.

Chelsea have surprised many with their start, although it must be said tougher tests lie ahead after the international break with games against the likes of Liverpool, Newcastle and Arsenal.

Maresca has certainly got the team looking more balanced, with more control of games and going forward the Blues look a constant threat.

Former Chelsea star Mikel has been impressed with Maresca and singled him out for praise over how he’s changed the attitude of the team.

“Maresca has changed the attitude of this football team,” he told The Obi One Podcast.

“Now without the ball, I see players working very, very hard, Sancho, Madueke, Nicholas, Jackson, Cole Palmer, running, chasing to get the ball back.

“That is the attitude I want to see, and I’m so happy to see that attitude is coming back to the football club.”

Maresca has certainly adjusted well to the big step up from Leicester and appears to be do everything right at the moment and the Blues can make it five wins in a row in all competitions with victory against Gent in the Conference League on Thursday night.
