John McGinn reveals where the nickname 'Meatball' came from | OneFootball

John McGinn has been revolutionary at Aston Villa, proving his €3m move from Hibs last season was one of the biggest bargains in Europe.

On Friday, in his 16th appearance in a Scotland shirt, the 24-year-old finally netted his first international goal. However, Scotland would lose their lead and fall 2-1 to Russia on the night.

Before the match, McGinn revealed the origin behind his nickname ‘Meatball’.

“It was meatball at St Mirren and Hibs. I quite liked meatball, it didn’t bother me. It was because when I was 17 I had a two all over when my mum used to cut my hair in the kitchen.

“A two all over and my head was that round I looked like a meatball.”

After Monday’s qualifier against Belgium, McGinn will return to Villa to prepare for their next match against West Ham on the 16th.
