A statement read: “Leeds United can confirm head coach Jesse Marsch has been relieved of his duties.

“Jesse joined the club in February 2022 and was instrumental in keeping the club in the Premier League on the final day of last season.

“Rene Maric, Cameron Toshack and Pierre Barrieu will also leave the club.

“We would like to thank Jesse and his backroom staff for their efforts and wish them well for the future.

“The process of appointing a new head coach is underway and we will continue to keep supporters up to date throughout the coming days.”

Marsch took over from Marcelo Bielsa at the end of February 2022 and helped the club avoid relegation to the Championship on the final day of last season.

But the Yorkshire giants have failed to kick on this term despite some heavy investment from their American ownership.

After Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, the Leeds hierarchy have decided that now is the time for a change in direction with the side 17th in the table with just one win in their last eight games.

Leeds’ have a Premier League double-header against Manchester United next up – first at Old Trafford on Wednesday before hosting Erik ten Hag’s men on Sunday.
