Jamaica claimed a famous 0-0 draw with France as one of the tournament favorites toiled in rainy Sydney.
Despite dominating possession for much of the 90 minutes, France could not break down a dogged Jamaica side.
On just their second appearance in the finals and four years after they lost all three group games and conceded 12 goals, very little was expected of the Jamaicans against the Worldâs 5th highest-ranked side.
The first half saw the underdogs operate with a brilliant press, not allowing the French any time or space to get into their rhythm.
Their best chances came via a Wendie Richard header and a Kadidiatou Dianiâs deflected shot, both of which just went wide.
The second 45 saw more spaces open as the Jamaicans began to tire but Franceâs attack could not find their way past Rebecca Spencer.
Substitute Kenza Dali was their standout performer in the latter stages but it was Diani who came closest, heading onto the woodwork in the 90th minute.
Jamaica survived a red card in injury time to striker Khadija Shaw to secure the greatest result in their womenâs football history.
