Jadon Sancho stifled as Borussia Dortmund are forced to settle for draw vs. Bayer Leverkusen | OneFootball

Manchester United loanee Jadon Sancho was left frustrated as Borussia Dortmund were held to a 1-1 stalemate by newly-crowned Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.

Dortmund seemed like they would finally end Leverkusen’s unbeaten run across all competitions when striker Niclas Fullkrug found the back of the net with nine minutes of regular time left on the clock.

However, as has been the case for large parts this season, Leverkusen rallied back and restored parity in the 97th minute to ensure both sides shared the spoils.

Xabi Alonso’s side are still yet to taste a loss during the ongoing campaign, which is proving to be a fairytale for them.

Sancho started on the right side of a 4-5-1 formation.

He only featured for 70 minutes before manager Edin Terzic took him off and replaced him with veteran forward Marco Reus, who was thrust into the action to try and make a difference for the Signal Iduna Park outfit.

It’s easy to see why Terzic substituted Sancho. The United loanee only had 35 touches of the ball during the time he was on the pitch.

He attempted 25 passes and found his Dortmund teammates with 21 of them. Sancho registered a personal pass completion rate of 84%. There was no key pass.

The England international attempted one cross and one long ball. While he successfully connected with his intended target with the long ball, his cross failed to find its mark.

Sancho failed to register any shot whatsoever. He didn’t at all trouble Lukas Hradecky in the Leverkusen goal.

The forward embarked on two dribbles and completed half of them. The United man will also be looking to improve defensively. He delved into six ground duels and won two of them. He did not challenge for any contest aerially. He also failed to put in a tackle or interception.

Sancho ceded possession back to Leverkusen 11 times.

Following his stellar display in Dortmund’s previous games against Atletico Madrid in the quarter-final of the Champions League, Sancho got a small dose of reality vs. Leverkusen.

He is however unlikely to be derailed by this small setback and will undoubtedly be aiming to do much better when Dortmund travel to face RB Leipzig next weekend.
