Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish has signed a new two-year contract extension, the club have announced.
The 25-year-old had been closely linked with a move to Manchester United, among others, this summer.
But he has now penned a deal at the club until the summer of 2025, with The Telegraph reporting that he will now earn £125,000 per week under the terms of the new contract.
The news does come out of left field given recent speculation about his future but the player himself announced his excitement about the project in place.
“I’m delighted to make this commitment to Villa. It is my club, my home and I’m very happy here,” said the playmaker.
“The owners made it very clear to me how ambitious they are and how they want to build Villa. There are exciting times ahead and I’m glad to be part of it.”
Grealish has been on the books at his boyhood club for almost 20 years, signing as an eight-year-old.
The good news is set to keep coming for the Villans too, who are poised to complete the signings of Emiliano Martínez and Bertrand Traore, while also retaining an interest in Milot Rashica.
