Jack Clarke backed to benefit from leaving Tottenham Hotspur on loan

It is fair to say that Jack Clarke has not progressed as expected at Tottenham Hotspur.

Having joined from Leeds United in 2019, the 20-year-old winger is yet to make a Premier League appearance for Tottenham. As of his both of his first-team appearances have come as a substitute in the Europa League this season.

While he been in and around the first team, it does not appear as if he has done enough to warrant a spot in Jose Mourinho’s immediate plans for the club.

Speaking to Football Insider (h/t Football.london), former Spurs midfielder Michael Brown believes the youngster’s development would be better aided if he chooses to go out on loan.

“I think he will certainly be looked at, it’s only normal that if he can go and play a certain amount of games to the end of the season.”

In fact, there was interest from Championship sides in securing his signature in the summer. Spurs decided to keep the plyer on but we are yet to see any tangible benefits from the decision.

Brown believes playing regularly will help aid the player’s development. He appears to indicate that Clarke will be better off seeking pastures new for the greater good of his career. (h/t Football.london)

“The next loan, he’s got to play. Wherever it be, whether the ambition isn’t always as high, it’s not a rush, it’s no rush to play but I think if he’s going go somewhere, you almost need to be saying he plays.”

But in order to thrive, Clarke will need to up his game. He spent the first half of last season back at Elland Road and the second on loan at Queens Park Rangers.

Clarke has made quite the impression on manager Jose Mourinho in training. He featured prominently during the pre-season and was set to play for the first-team in the eventually cancelled Carabao Cup meeting against Leyton Orient. (h/t Football.london)

Mourinho also had him training alongside Spurs favourite Gareth Bale during the first international break. The Spurs boss is hoping that working with the Welshman will rub off on the teenager. (h/t Football.london)

As of yet, it would appear that the efforts have not led to identifiable results. A fresh start in January could help get the player’s development back on track.
