As reported by Les Échos and confirmed by Get French Football News, Dmitry Rybolovlev has been open to selling AS Monaco, ever since receiving an “unsolicited” approach. The Principality club’s CEO, Thiago Scuro, has now discussed the potential sale.

A statement from a representative of Rybolovlev’s family office, obtained by GFFN back in January read as follows:

The majority shareholder of AS Monaco (the “Club”) has decided to commence a process to explore strategic alternatives for its stake in the Club after receiving unsolicited inbound interest. The majority shareholder has retained The Raine Group (“Raine”) to serve as its exclusive financial advisor on this matter. Raine has significant experience working with the world’s biggest football clubs on a range of assignments. There can be no assurances that the strategic review will result in any transaction involving the Club and we do not intend to make any further announcements regarding the strategic review at this time.

Scuro has now reacted to the ongoing process, praising Rybolovlev but also stating that clarity would be in the best interests of the Principality club. “Firstly, it is no secret that the sale process is ongoing – that was made official in January. The other topic is to highlight how the organisation reacted to that. Players, staff, all of the directors and on the business side, we haven’t felt the impact on a daily basis. We managed the topic on the side and there has been no instability internally on this matter. We continue to do what we are doing and keep to the plan,” began Scuro.

Scuro keen on timeline to be defined

He added, “Whatever happens in the future, the club will be ready to keep growing and keep having success, that is our main mission. We hope the process can finish as quickly as possible, as that would be healthy for the organisation. On the summer market, we keep with our initial plan until the day that anyone, if it happens, comes with a different strategy or approach. So far, we keep running the club, aligned with our president.”

Since the announcement from Rybolovlev’s family office back in January, the Russian owner has been more present than ever at the club. Scuro has praised his contribution, stating, “He has been transparent since the beginning. He has never acted without us knowing. He was very important on this journey, present at training, travelling to games, coming into the dressing room. There have been so many occasions this season where he was a big part of the decisions and helping us progress.”

Monaco’s CEO concluded, “As soon as the timeline is defined, it is better for the club, right? The process needs time and lots of steps. The quicker we have a decision on this, in terms of what is going to happen, if it’s going to happen, and how, it’s better for us, for the organisation to have a clear vision for the future.
