In a recent report, journalist Graeme Bailey mentioned that Arsenal are eyeing a move for Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana. It has been claimed that the Gunners have reached out to the French midfield ace’s representatives ahead of a potential move this summer.
Fofana enjoyed an impressive campaign in Ligue 1 as he managed to put in a series of dominant displays for Monaco at the centre of the park. The 25-year-old found the back of the net four times and picked up four assists in 35 matches for the French club this season across all fronts.
The French talent has been a reliable performer at both ends of the field and deserves credit for averaging 1.9 tackles, 1.2 interceptions, 1.0 clearances, 1.6 shots, 1.3 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game in Ligue 1. He has even been careful when distributing the ball from midfield after completing 82.2% of his attempted passes in the top tier of French football (stats via whoscored).
His current contract at Monaco will run out at the end of next season which could give the Gunners a chance to sign him on the cheap in this summer transfer window.

Fofana loves a tackle and can read the danger well to secure possession back for his side in the middle of the park. He usually clears the danger when needed and can strike the ball with power from long range.
The French sensation has also got the vision to engineer a few decent chances for his teammates in the final third and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet. He is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also serve as a defensive midfielder or as a right-sided wide player if needed.
We can expect Fofana to bring more quality and depth to Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta‘s midfield. He might even help the Gunners compete across all competitions in the coming seasons.
At 25, Fofana has his best years ahead of him which makes him a worthy target for the North London giants to pursue this summer. However, it remains to be seen whether the Monaco midfield ace can make a smooth transition to life in English football.
