Huddersfield Town sit atop the first League One table of the season following a comfortable 3-0 win against Leyton Orient on Saturday.

Two of their goals came from League debutantes Joe Low and Alfie May, but the final goal was scored by Dutch winger Ruben Roosken.

Roosken only joined the club in January from the Dutch side Heracles, but he has now been offered a new contract by the club, which will keep him at Huddersfield until 2028.

The player seems happy with the decision, telling the club's website that, "I feel really settled and at home at the club, and I can see the direction and ambition of everyone here this summer, and that's a journey I want to be part of."

"Certainly it's positive" - Huddersfield praised over Roosken contract extension

Football League World have spoken to our Huddersfield fan pundit Graeme Rayner to get his assessment of this decision, and he was somewhat surprised that it happened so soon after Roosken arrived at the Accu Stadium: "It's an interesting one. He only joined in January and we've already extended his contract, although only by a year. Why did we need to do it? He's certainly been a decent player when he's fit, but I think there must have been some sort of incentive for him to stay; perhaps a pay rise or something? I don't know!"

But while Graeme doesn't quite understand the need to get Roosken tied down to a new contract now, he's glad that his club did: "It's a bit of an odd one. It's certainly not something that makes me unhappy; I just don't quite understand the need to do it. He's under contract until the end of the season anyway. It's a little bit odd, but certainly it's positive, and I think he's got a big role to play this season."

Ruben Roosken kicked off first full Huddersfield season in style

Ruben Roosken kicked off his new season with a goal, but it wasn't his first for the club.

The left-winger only made 14 appearances throughout the second half of last season after joining from Heracles, but scored twice for Huddersfield during that time, with his first for the club coming in a 5-1 win against Crawley Town at the start of March.

With a lot of work having been carried out on the team over the summer and with a new manager, in the form of Lee Grant, with no previous managerial experience, Huddersfield's first home game of the season might have ended quite differently, but the team's accomplished performance - and against a team which came extremely close to promotion last year themselves - offers plenty of reason for Huddersfield fans to be optimistic that this could be a very good season for the Terriers indeed.
