Italy set to earn extra Champions League spot following Atalanta’s Anfield heroics

Atalanta’s Anfield heroics shook Liverpool but they did more than just that, as it could now hand Serie A an extra spot in the Champions League next season.

Italy have been at the top of the UEFA Coefficients table for months now and while they have no team left in the Champions League, the other teams in the Europa League and the Conference League are looking to keep their performances up to make sure that the Serie A stays at the top.

And Atalanta’s 3-0 win at Anfield has all but made sure that Italy were handed +0.286 points to their tally, thereby guaranteeing that the team which finishes fifth in the Serie A will play in the Champions League. Germany are now at second due to Bayer Leverkusen’s win over West Ham, making sure that England fell to third and find an extra Champions League spot at stake once again.
